Arsenal fans took to Twitter on Thursday night to react to Nicklas Bendtner's display for Wolfsburg in the 2-0 Europa League defeat to Everton.
Former Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner failed to silence his critics in Wolfsburg’s Europa League clash against Everton on Thursday night, as goals from Romelu Lukaku and Kevin Mirallas, respectively, either side of half-time secured the visitors a 2-0 win.
The German outfit in fact dominated the game for long spells, but failed to put a single one of their 38 shots on goal into the back of the net, as Bendtner himself had few clear-cut chances. The 26-year-old striker experienced an intense battle with Toffees centre-back Sylvain Distin on the night, with the highlight of his first-half coming in the 22nd-minute when his flick-on saw Ivan Perisic stroke home, only for the goal to be incorrectly ruled offside.
The Denmark international then found the back of the net himself 10 minutes after the break with a header from a corner but the strike was once again ruled out for offside – the correct decision on this occasion.
Hauled off 15 minute from the end, Bendtner now has three goals in 12 total appearances for Wolfsburg, following a slow start upon arriving on a free transfer in August, but his recent form has been much improved.
Prior to the match, the polarising front man had scored five times in four games for club and country, but Arsenal fans still couldn’t resists using him as the brunt of their jokes, with sarcasm abundant among the following reactions.
